The New Normal

Lamentations 3:40 KJV
[40] Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord.

This is a great time for introspection. We can use this time to analyze the way we saw life before this situation came about, what we did right as well as what we could have done and can do differently. When this is over, we will need to be able to put things in perspective; spiritually, financially, socially, healthwise etc, there are so many lessons we can learn from this and apply in our lives when God willing, life gets back to ‘normal’, whatever the new normal may be. “The unexamined life is not worth living” (Socrates).

Conspiracy Theories

Psalm 131:1 KJV
[1] Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

There are a lot of conspiracy theories about what is happening now, ranging from government to the end of the world stories. The canon of Scripture is closed; there is no new information added to the Bible. If the theories you are hearing are not confirmed in the Scriptures, you are just confusing yourself. Everything we need to know is in the Word as it is. Everything we do not know or understand rests in the hands of God. Keep praying, hold on to your faith, do your part to get through this and let God to be in control, as He always has been. “They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds” (C.S. Lewis).

No Dent

Luke 2:1,7 KJV
[1] And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. [7] And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

We are living in extremely inconvenient times. Jesus was not spared this phenomenon as He was born at a time when the order of the day (census) resulted in Him being born in a manger. That did not create even a dent in His destiny and ministry; as a matter of fact it even helped to fulfill the prophecy said about Him being born in a manger. The negativity of this time need not create a problem in your God-ordained destiny.

This planet is temporary

Romans 8:22 KJV
[22] For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

There is nothing new under the sun. What is happening now happened over and over again in the past, albeit in different forms and despite our advancement in technology today, we have not been exempt. The Bible has already made it clear that nature after the fall of man in the garden of Eden has not been perfect. We should use the current situation as a reminder that this planet is not our permanent home and one way or another we will all leave it sooner or later. What matters most is where we will spend eternity, which is determined by how we live our lives now.

God is Working

2 Peter 3:9 KJV
[9] The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

In times like this it is easy to wonder where God is in all of this and if this is His will for mankind. Throughout history there were times it seemed God was slow to move in favor of His people but now we know He always came through at the right time. We do not always have all the answers and insight into His doings but one thing we know is that He always pulls through for those who trust in Him. “God is at work in the background” (Melanie Newton).

Fear is a Liar

Genesis 15:1-2 KJV
[1] After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. [2] And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Obviously the time to be afraid is when there is something to be afraid of. As Christians though we are commanded not to allow fear to rule our hearts even when there seems cause for it. We serve a God who has seen it all, who knows the end from the beginning and if He says not to fear, we can trust Him enough to listen. “Fear has a large shadow, but he himself is small (Ruth Gendler).

We Live and Die Unto God

Romans 14:8 KJV
[8] For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

Christians should be the least afraid of what is happening in our world now. Countless of brothers and sisters in the faith willingly chose and continue to choose to enter worse situations to further the kingdom of God. And in the worst case scenario, as Paul said we live or die unto God. This world was not designed to be a permanent home for anyone. Even if one lives a hundred years after corona virus is over, in the end death is certain. Just do your part, take care of yourself, and trust that even in this, God is still the God of your destiny as you knew He was before this situation came about. “God has not given us the spirit of fear. So imagine where your fear is coming from. It’s from somewhere else!” (Israelmore Ayivor).

Your Words

James 3:6 KJV
[6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

The way you talk about yourself and your life sets the precedence for your future. “Every thought has the power to bring into being the visible from the invisible. It is absolutely necessary for us all to understand that everything we think, do or say comes back to us. Every thought, word or action- without exception- manifests itself [in some way] as an actual reality” (Ann Wigmore).

Using One’s Gifts

Romans 12:6 KJV
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;

“Every Christian is gifted of the Lord to fulfill a divine vocation. Along with the gift, God gives a desire or a motivation to make use of that gift” (R. C. Sproul). Let us identify and use thé gift God has given us.

Grace

Ecclesiastes 9:7 KJV

[7] Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works.

“This verse is not intended as justification for any careless decision that we make. But it does speak about God’s love for us and His desire for us to enjoy ourselves. If you’ve made a new year’s resolution or life decision in prayer and in keeping with God’s Word, then according to this verse, you now have permission to relax and enjoy the results of your decision” (Grace Robinson).
