Matthew 8:11-12 KJV
And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Whether ‘once saved forever saved’ is a sure thing or not depends on you the believer. It is human nature to take for granted things we become accustomed to, no matter the price incurred to get it. Unfortunately, there is a reason why the way to eternal destruction is so broad; it has enough room for both those already on it, and the double-minded. “As long as we do not through continued neglect or bitterness come to ultimately reject God, we are indeed assured of salvation” (United Church of God), and the opposite is true.
Romans 8:28 KJV
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Life being the zig-zag journey it is, can sometimes make one wonder how things will turn out in the future. As children of God, we can rest assured that God wants the best for us more than we want for ourselves and everything will work out well in the end. “I’ve read the last page of the Bible, it’s all going to turn out all right” (Billy Graham).
Numbers 14:28 KJV
Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
We have often heard that we should be careful with the words we speak. Sometimes in desperate times, we are tempted to foresee the worst to help us go through the current bad situation. But negative words spoken in desperation can become self-fulfilling prophecies, because words have power. “Words are free. It’s how you use them that may cost you (KushandWizdom).
Jeremiah 17:5 KJV
Thus saith the Lord ; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord .
It is not good to put one’s whole trust in another human being since no one is perfect and anyone can easily betray one’s trust easily, intentionally or otherwise. Trusting blindly in people usually set one up for disappointment. “Never trust anyone completely but God. Love people, but put your full trust only in God” (Lawrence Welk).
Colossians 3:16 KJV
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
As Christians in this world it is important to have the Scriptures at heart. The world has its own strong opinions which can be misleading unless offset by the Word of God. Too much of anything else may be bad, but there is no such thing as reading too much of the Bible because It is the guideline that keeps the Christian grounded and focused. “Gather the riches of God’s promises. Nobody can take away from you those texts from the Bible which you have learned by heart” (Corrie Ten Boom).
Isaiah 64:4 KJV
For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.
Waiting is not usually a pleasant experience, but a necessary part of life. A life without anything to look forward to is a miserable one indeed. God gives us hope with His promises, both here and in the hereafter. “God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill His promises, leading us along the best and straightest paths to Himself” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer).
Matthew 11:18-19 KJV
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
Human nature is and has always been the same since time immémorial in that no matter what you do, good or bad, people will talk about you, and not always in a good way. It’s a lose-lose situation to try to conform to public opinion. “No matter what you do, bad or good, people are always gonna have something to say about it. Just remember this: if people always have something to say about your life, that’s saying little about their own” (Unknown).
