Matthew 8:10 KJV
When Jesus heard it , he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
We usually ask God in our prayers to “surprise” us, but sometimes we should surprise God with our faith as well. If without faith it is impossible to please God, then with faith that marvels God nothing is truly impossible. “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe” (Saint Augustine).
Matthew 11:2-3 KJV
Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
Sometimes things happen that make us doubt the sovereignty of God in our lives. John the Baptist, who had been prophesied about in the Old Testament, definitely did not expect to spend his last days in a prison. However, no matter what, we can have faith that God is in control over all circumstances. “Trying to figure out God is like trying to catch a fish in the Pacific Ocean with an inch of dental floss” (Matt Chandler).
1 Samuel 14:23 KJV
So the Lord saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over unto Beth-aven.
Matthew 22:21 KJV
Render…unto God the things that are God’s.
Inasmuch as as human beings, we would like to think of ourselves as self-made men or women, the truth is that God had always been looking out for us. It is God “who from ourmothers’ arms, has blesed us on our way” to wherever we find ourselves now. “When God is my way, I never get lost” (Nick Catricala).
Proverbs 20:24 NKJV A man’s steps are of the Lord; How then can a man understand his own way?
Sometimes we may not understand why some things happen the way they do. Humans are not sovereign, but God is. “There is no greater discovery than seeing God as the author of your destiny” (Ravi Zacharias).
Genesis 15:1 NKJV After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”
Though Christianity has its rewards, the main focus has always been the relationship restored between man and God. “God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing”- (C.S. Lewis).
2 Corinthians 12:9. NKJV And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
“When you feel God can’t use you, it’s helpful to remember, Noah was a drunk, Abraham was too old; Isaac was a daydreamer; Jacob was a liar; Leah was ugly; Joseph was abused; Moses had a stuttering problem; Gideon was afraid; Samson had long hair and was a womanizer; Rahman was a prostitute; Jeremiah and Timothy were too young; David had an affair and was a murderer; Elijah was suicidal; Isaiah preached naked; Jonah ran from God; Naomi was a widow; Job went bankrupt; Peter denied Christ; the Disciples fell asleep while praying; Martha worried about everything; the Samaritan woman was divorced, more than once; Zaccheus was too small; Paul was too religious; Timothy had a stomach problem AND Lazarus was dead!” (Jim Moffett)
Romans 1:21 NKJV because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
John 4:24 NKJV
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
It’s not enough to just believe God exists. He is seeking those who not only think He exists but those who also *live* according to the knowledge. “He does not believe who does not live according to his belief” ~Thomas Fuller.
