John 1:25,27 KJV And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
Listening to flattery will get you nowhere in life. Know who you are so you will not be buffeted by public opinion which will turn your unique life purpose into competition. “Flattery corrupts both the receiver and the giver” (Edmund Burke).
Matthew 11:18-19 KJV For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
No matter what you do, you cannot please everybody. Wisdom is acknowledging this and focusing on doing what you need to do, with or without others’ approval. “You can’t please everyone, and you can’t make everyone like you” – Katie Couric.
Ecclesiastes 7:14 NIV When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other.
Your outlook in the bad times is the same attitude you will have in good times. If you are waiting till you get richer, married, promoted etc, before you appreciate your life, you will continue to be dissatisfied even after you get them. The problem is not the situation, it’s you. “There’s no happier person than a truly thankful, content person”-Joyce Meyer.
Matthew 9:21 KJV For she said within herself, If I may but touch his garment, I shall be whole.
You are how you are today because of what you told yourself in the past. One way to develop resilience in love is to develop a healthy self-talk. That, nobody else can do for you. “You have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens” (Louise Hay).
Bonus quote: Ann Bradford — ‘Tell the negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up.’
As I’m writing this, I’m in church sitting behind a man holding a baby. A man beside them tried to wave the baby girl’s attention but the baby’s eyes were glued to people walking to give offertory in front of the church.
I wanted to be like that child. The ability to focus on what you want to focus on without paying heed to people who just want to entertain themselves with you.
This morning an incident I anticipated happened in a salon. I have a baby face and look younger than my age and I also have very good, hair as per my society. So I anticipate comments pertaining to my hair but also how such a small girl(I’m 22) has such long hair. I’m okay with how God has created me though but it sucks to be seen as younger than you are.
I want to be like this baby and not care what people think.
Matthew 18:3-4 KJV
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 8:22 KJV But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Everyday is a new day and we must leave the past where it belongs to be able to create a desirable future. “If you don’t leave your past in the past, it will destroy your future. Leave for what today has to offer not for what yesterday has taken away” (Unknown).
