DEPRESSION IN OUR CHURCHES

I’m watching Robert Duvall’s ‘The Apostle’. It’s about one preacher’s journey from a fall to redemption. However, I’m more interested in the behind-the-scenes of this classic movie.

Robert Duvall had to produce the movie himself because nobody else would. From my research I gathered that they didn’t like the idea of a ‘fallible’ preacher on the screens.

This is our attitude today as a church towards Depression. We pretend it doesn’t exist. Sufferers of depression feel they do not have enough faith and that they are not good and faithful Christians like the ‘others’.

We forget that the Bible says blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted. Comforted by the Holy Spirit yes, but also by the brethren.
